>>>emer.jent is a collaborative zine featuring art inspired by the poem 'trees for your bullets' by Jamie Renee Williams. As national attention to police violence against Black folks we brought together a group of friends for a reading of the poem in an effort to process some of the shock and grief from what we were witnessing. In the following months, we each created art in response. I gathered everyone's submissions and designed the zine itself. Jamie selected plantable paper studded with wildflower seeds.
If planted, the zine will grow a patch of wildflowers (as seen in the images below). Sales from the zine are donated to support Crop Swap LA: a local, Black-led initiative growing food on residential lawns and distributing the food to the surrounding community.
